Our opinion in Ecobee3 Review
As time passes by, more and more thermostats are being introduced in the market. New designs are constantly being welcomed by homeowners all around the globe. These innovative models have impressive sets of features that can really wow any potential buyer. The only thing that can help you decide is to figure out what kind of service you want to receive.
Pros & Cons
Besides, it lets you keep your energy bills at bay by saving an average of 23 percent on heating and cooling per user, annually. It even offers you the ability to track your energy savings! Not only is this good for your wallet, it is also good for the environment. If you want to be even better at saving, it can give you tips on how to run your system more intelligently. Talk about caring for Mother Nature.
Now the most common concern about this product is that it requires a C-Wire for the functions to work. Thankfully, the installation process has a workaround.
The only real disadvantage of this model is that the workaround for the C-Wire issue is not very simple. It is not recommended for novices. This may become a problem because not every HVAC system requires a C-Wire.
Other than that, there aren’t a lot of issues about this thermostat that you will find annoying. Perhaps buying too many sensors may clutter your house, so only buy the right number of remote sensors for optimal performance and convenience.
Now if we are going to talk about smart thermostats, we can say that these ones are also growing more popular by the minute. People adore the convenience they offer, simply because they are even more advanced than your regular, programmable thermostats. These high-tech devices give you a taste of the future by effectively taking charge of your HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system without taking too much of your effort.
The question is how can a smart thermostat possibly stand out if the competition is extremely tight? Also, if all the smart units in the market are intelligent, how can you choose only one?
The answer is to be even smarter than the rest of the competition.
We all know how the Nest Thermostat remains one of the best smart models out there, having pioneered and defined the standards of the industry. Few thermostats can compare.
But luckily, here we have a great smart thermostat that closely rivals the Nest, and at an almost similar price.
The Ecobee3 is not just smart, it is smarter than many units out there, as its name already suggests.
Let’s find out how a ‘smarter’ thermostat functions, and how it delivers a top-notch service worthy of being compared to the Nest. So read the Ecobee3 review.
Ecobee3 Review: Basic Functions
When a thermostat is borderline genius, it usually works in a more advanced way than the rest of its counterparts. This Ecobee3 displays its natural intelligence by intuitively understanding the system you have in your home. This way it can turn on the heating and cooling equipment whenever necessary, and in accordance to your house’s so-called energy profile.
It takes into consideration a lot of factors to make sure you are kept comfortable all day. It gathers data from your home’s current temperature, the weather outside, and more sources to ensure you are given maximum comfort.
This Ecobee3 is different from the others because it makes use of a remote sensor that you can place anywhere in your home. This sensor allows the thermostat to detect which room you are in, or if there is nobody home.
When you purchase the Ecobee3 thermostat, you are given one free remote sensor, but you can actually own up to 32 sensors, which you will have to buy separately. But basically, the more sensors you add, the smarter this thermostat becomes. Place these sensors in all the important rooms and the Ecobee3 will adjust the temperature according to where you are staying, and where it is needed the most. From Ecobee’s own words: it delivers “comfort where it matters and savings where it counts.”
We’ll discuss more of those savings in a while. The main difference between this Ecobee3 and the others is that most regular thermostats can only pick up data from one room, making their service slightly more inconvenient.
Ecobee3 Review: Additional Features
This Ecobee3 further boosts its unique appeal by giving you more features than you can possibly want.
Let’s begin with the more common functions: you can control this Ecobee3 from anywhere as long as you have a decent Wi-Fi connection. This is useful for those days when you feel like remotely adjusting the heating or cooling systems so you could come home to the perfect room temperature.
This is made possible by HomeKit, which lets you take control over other Apple accessories in your home. Use your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to adjust this thermostat. Just imagine being able to adjust the temperature by just commanding Siri! Other than that, it also works on smartphones, tablets and computers.
Ecobee3 Review: Conclusion
The reason this Ecobee3 is so smart is because it is the product of trial and error. This is an evolved version of the previous Ecobee models, and all the right improvements were incorporated into this one.
We couldn’t really compare this directly to the Nest Learning Thermostat because they are on different lanes of performance. This one surveys your area for a better performance, while the Nest can be programmed to your liking. The fact they are at about the same price probably proves that they are great thermostats in their own right.
Both are smart thermometers with great features to keep you hooked; both are good for saving money and reducing your energy bill; and both are aesthetically pleasing.
You should get this one if you want to have more control over the temperatures of specific rooms. Otherwise, this is a good pick in general, so might as well try it out.
